🙂 The Beatitudes
Scripture: Matthew 5:7
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.”Main Idea:
Mercy should flow from the heart of those who follow Jesus. -
Continue the conversation at home:
Why does our culture value getting even more than showing mercy?
What is your usual instinct if someone wrongs you? Mercy or payback/revenge?
Read Matthew 5:7
When is it hardest for you to show mercy? Why?
What keeps you from being compassionate or forgiving when someone hurts you?
Read Luke 10:30-37
What stands out about how the Good Samaritan showed mercy?
He chose to focus on the man’s needs, not on the fact he was supposed to be his enemy, etc.
How does that kind of mercy reflect the mercy Jesus has for us?
How can you be merciful this week?
Who is someone God might be calling you to show mercy to?
Is there someone you struggle to get along with or that you avoid that you could show mercy to? How?
How can we as a middle school group show mercy to others?
What might happen if everyone who followed Jesus chose to give mercy instead of seeking revenge?
