Scripture:‍ ‍Matthew 5:7
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.”

Main Idea:
Mercy should flow from the heart of those who follow Jesus.

Continue the conversation at home:

• Why does our culture value getting even more than showing mercy? 

• What is your usual instinct if someone wrongs you? Mercy or payback/revenge?  

• Read Matthew 5:7

  • When is it hardest for you to show mercy? Why?

  • What keeps you from being compassionate or forgiving when someone hurts you? 

• Read Luke 10:30-37

  • What stands out about how the Good Samaritan showed mercy?

    • He chose to focus on the man’s needs, not on the fact he was supposed to be his enemy, etc.

  • How does that kind of mercy reflect the mercy Jesus has for us? 

• How can you be merciful this week?

  • Who is someone God might be calling you to show mercy to?

  • Is there someone you struggle to get along with or that you avoid that you could show mercy to?  How?

• How can we as a middle school group show mercy to others?

• What might happen if everyone who followed Jesus chose to give mercy instead of seeking revenge?
