    Scripture Focus: Matthew 5:4
    “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

    Main Idea: True blessing is found when we mourn before God over our loss, our sin, and the injustice taking place in the world.

    Continue the Conversation at Home:

    Read Matthew 5:4

    • What does it mean to mourn?

    • When is the last time you mourned over something? What was it? Did you take your pain/grief to God? Why/Why not?

    • Do you mourn over your sin?

    • Where/how do you need to become more aware of the sin in your life?

    • How would mourning your sin before God allow you to be blessed?

      • Looking for something like: Understanding our sin and it’s consequences helps us understand just how much we have been forgiven, it helps us understand how much God loves us in that He forgives us while we were/are still sinners, etc.

    • What would it look like to truly desire to live rightly with God simply because you love Him?

    • How have you seen or experienced injustice recently; what was it?

    • How do you normally respond when you see or experience injustice?

    • How does mourning over injustice motivate us to action? 

    Action Steps:

    • Talk to God about any pain or grief you are experiencing.  Ask Him to bring healing to those areas.

    • Take some time this week to confess any sin to God that you haven’t and ask Him to reveal sins in your life that you aren’t aware of.

      • Let the true weight of your sin sink in.

      • Be broken over it.

      • But don’t stay stuck in it!

      • Thank God for His forgiveness & love.

    • Ask God to make you aware of any injustice happening around you and for the courage to act.
