    Scripture Focus: Matthew 5:3-4
    “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

    Main Idea: True blessing comes from learning to rely on God.

    Continue the Conversation at Home:

    • Describe the happiest moment you’ve had this year. Why that one?

    • What comes to mind when you hear the word blessed?

    Read Matthew 5:1-12

    • What words or phrases stand out to you?

    • Why do you think Jesus repeats “Blessed are…” so many times? 

    • What are the things people chase to feel happy or fulfilled?

    • Do those truly provide happiness or fulfillment? Why or why not? 

    Read Matthew 5:3

    • What does it mean to be poor in spirit, and how does it challenge our normal way of thinking about strength or success? 

    Read Matthew 5:4

    • Why would Jesus say those who mourn are blessed?

    • How have you experienced God’s comfort?

    • When have you experienced true joy or peace in a situation that didn’t make sense? How do you think that happened?

    • What’s one area of your life where it’s hardest for you to depend on God? What keeps you from letting go of control in that area?

    • What’s one way you can live out these two Beatitudes at school, home, or with friends?
