Meet JOn

I was born and raised right here in Manhattan, KS. I had wonderful parents that modeled and talked about Jesus and lived lives full of grace, mercy and compassion. I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior as a young boy and was baptized. I still remember the feeling of freedom in my heart from that day. In fact, I even wanted to be a Pastor when I grew up. I had a very busy and fun childhood playing baseball, basketball, running cross country, track and being involved in 4-H. I graduated from Riley County High School in the Spring of 2001, and then went to K-State. I studied Parks, Wildlife and Recreation management as well as criminology.

I enlisted in the United States Army in August of 2004 and served through September of 2008. After being honorably discharged I returned home and served as a Deputy Sheriff in Pottawatomie County for about six years. I began attending Faith in 2008 after returning home. My wife, Megan, and I were married in May of 2012. During the last 12 years God has moved in big ways in my life. I’ve had many ups and downs and losses. Through it all, Jesus has provided exactly what I needed. He has used every situation, good or bad, to lead me to His ultimate calling for me; serving the youth of our church.

I so enjoy working with our middle school students and families. My desire is that these students will not only hear, but also see Jesus modeled to them in a way that impacts the rest of their lives and ultimately helps them come to their own faith in Jesus. I want them to have some fun as well.

When I’m not serving you can usually find me out fishing somewhere during the summer, or hunting in the fall and winter. Mostly, I just love being outside. Being in the midst of God’s creation speaks to my heart and refreshes my soul. I love involving my family with my outdoor activities. We enjoy camping, love watching movies together, going on bike rides when it’s not too hot, playing basketball and trying new things from time to time. I also love to see just how big of eye rolls I can get with my dad jokes from my Middle School students!!
