Current Sermon Series: Living as Exiles
A study in 1 Peter

Have you ever thought, “I feel out of place . . . I don’t belong here . . . it seems as if I am never ‘at home’. . .”? When we seek to follow Jesus in every area of our lives, we are painfully aware that this earth is not our true home. We have different priorities, different standards of morality, and a different grid for evaluating people and relationships. We sometimes feel out of place in our culture, in our careers, and in our neighborhoods; we can even feel out of place in our own homes. How should we should we live in light of this dissonance?

The book of 1 Peter urges us to live in light of the spiritual reality that we are exiles in this world: our true home is in heaven, our time on earth is temporary, Jesus will surely return, we were once just like those who oppose us, etc. Living as exiles will shape how we view the church as well as society around us. Living as exiles will involves living a life of obedience, sober-mindedness, patience, and generosity. Living as exiles will involve a willingness to suffer. Above all, Peter teaches, to live as exiles is to imitate Christ who lived among us and suffered innocently on our behalf.

Please join us as we study 1 Peter for the next few months (beginning January 14th).
