Kid’s Making Room
As a church we recently completed the adult version of Making Room, a campaign to raise funds for a facility expansion project. Last Sunday we launched the children’s version. When children see the new changes being made to Faith we would love to them to know they played a part in making that happen.
The children’s ministries will gain a lot in both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Making Room expansions. During Phase 1 an additional large group room will be built. In addition to that large group room, the entire children’s wing will be themed to make the ministry areas more exciting and inviting for all of our kids.
When we launched the project we talked a lot about how this project is intended to help us do a better job of welcoming new kids into or church. Our hope is that as children participate they will be able to imagine their friends being introduced to Jesus and learning all about what He has done for them.
What you can do:
Part of the launch program was a video testimony from Breana Hennes (see above) sharing about how she gave to a project similar to Making Room when she was a child. We would love for you to talk with your children about Making Room (learn more here) and help them brainstorm ideas about how they might take part in helping to make room for more children here at Faith. We will be talking about this project for the next two Sundays and periodically throughout the Spring Semester. We sent home small white coin holders. Children can use those to store their money as they collect it. There will be a box located in the large group room for their donations.
Ultimately when our children see new kids experience God in our church, we want them to know that God used them to help prepare the church for that child. Even if they are only able to fund one stroke of a paint brush or a single nail in the wall we believe God will be delighted in their generosity. Let me know if you have any questions. I would also love to hear about your interactions with your children as you talk about Making Room.
A few notes about children giving:
-We would rather a child give only a penny of their own money than $100 of yours. If they want to give more than they have, find ways they can earn it from you.
-Some children won’t want to give. That is okay, don’t push them. We don’t want this project to make any children not want to come or even not like church.
-Some children will want to give more than you are comfortable with them giving. Ultimately we want you to lead your children the way you think best but also consider praying about their big ideas. This could be the beginning of them leading God honoring generous lives.
