Our History
In the mid 1980’s a small group of people in Manhattan began discussing the possibility of establishing a church that would hold to the tenets of orthodox Christianity but would be inclusive enough to welcome people from different denominations and traditions. In 1986 this group affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America, appreciating its emphasis on “in essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things love.”

Faith began meeting in January of 1987 and called Steve Ratliff to be our first pastor in 1988. Faith met in rented facilities (in Manhattan Christian College’s chapel) for the first decade of our existence. In 1997 we built and moved into the first phase of our current facilities. We added classrooms for children and youth in 2001. In 2013 we completed Phase 1 of our Making Room project; this expansion added space in worship, an office complex, and foyer space.

Since our inception Faith has been committed to cross-cultural ministry, sending members to serve in places such as India, Hungary, Indonesia, the Arabian Peninsula, and China. We are committed to supporting those whom we’ve sent out through prayer, finances, and encouragement.

The past decade we have also invested significant resources in developing our local outreach, believing that there should be continuity between the things we do “at home” and the things we send people to do in other parts of the world. Two components of our local outreach are the Alpha Course (an introduction to the Christian faith) and Love Manhattan (an effort to bless Manhattan through involvement in organizations and efforts that meet pressing needs in our community).
