History
In the mid 1980’s a small group of people in
Manhattan began discussing the possibility of
establishing a church that would hold to the
tenets of orthodox Christianity but would be
inclusive enough to welcome people from different
denominational traditions. Other things
highly-valued were biblical exposition, lay
leadership, and outreach. In 1986 this
group found a good fit in the Evangelical
Free Church of America, appreciating its
emphasis on “in essentials unity, in
non-essentials liberty, in all things love.”
Faith Evangelical Free Church began meeting in January of 1987 and called Steve Ratliff to be its first pastor in 1988. Faith met in rented facilities for the first decade of our existence. In 1997 we built and moved into the first phase of our current facilities. Our youth/children’s wing was added in 2001.
As ministries have grown Faith has added additional staff: Pastor of Equipping in 2000, Children’s Ministry Director in 2003, and Youth Pastor in 2003. In 2003 Faith called David Robinson to plant another EFCA church here in Manhattan; in March of 2004 we commissioned David and a group of approximately twenty-five adults to begin Harvest Fellowship.
